Robodub Battle Arena for robots and drones.
I designed this custom interactive battle arena depicting a post apocalyptic Seattle for the Robodub gaming system that premiered at the Maker Faire in San Mateo and Maker Con in San Francisco. In addition to the robots and drones battling each other they could compete for points by engaging interactive targets built into the arena to respond to infrared lasers.

Temple Burning Man
I served as a master carpenter and lead a rigging team on the crew that built this temple at Burning Man in 2009. We worked with three cranes to assemble the 18 spires that rise to a height of 45 feet each. The temple took almost a month to build and was visited by an estimated 53,000 people during the week of Burning Man before being burned in the final ceremony.
Burning Man 2009 Temple
I served as one of the lead Carpenters in constructing the 2009 Temple at Burning Man. The temple featured over 300 decorative panels carved with a Computer operated CNC set up. I also led a team of 8 riggers working with 3 cranes to assemble the temple. It took about a month to build, was visited by an estimated 35,000 people in the week of the event and then was burned in a final ceremony at the end. Due to all the CNC carvings the strong yet light structure was gone in less then an hour.

The interior of a hand made acoustic guitar. Much of the body and framework is made of sitka spruce, a species of wood known for it's tonal quality and ability to vibrate and radiate sound.

Winning Cardboard Chair Design
This Chair was designed originally as a furniture project exploring the strengths of combining cardboard without glue. It was later entered in a competition called the "Iron Chair Competition" in Sacramento. The chair took first place overall for best design and also won the weight competition. It outlasted all the other chairs which had weights piled upon them until they collapsed. It was up to 530 pounds before the judges declared it was not necessary to keep going and destroy the chair since the second place chair had already collapsed over 130 pounds earlier.

Bike Part Table
This table is made of discarded bike parts and a clear smokey acrylic top. The clear top stays still while the upper bike wheel spins independently and generates enough electricity to engage a low voltage light string woven through the spokes.

Recycled Redwood Bench
The comfortable bench is made from redwood reclaimed from an old deck that was being demolished. My design is based on commonly reclaimed wood dimensions, features wide arms for setting plates and coffee cups and an ergonomic curve designed for lower back support.

Goblin Light Box
This goblin steeling a soul is an example of the Japanese tradition of shadow puppetry.
Belvedere sign and frame
This sign and it's decorative frame for a restaurant in Sonoma County were made from reclaimed redwood from a collapsed barn in the Yolo County countryside.
Proposed Nurses Station: Mt Zion Hospital
This is an architectural model I made with a team that proposes a new nurses station layout for the pediatrics floor of Mount Zion hospital.
Other contributors were Toyer Lee, Christine Tsin and Nancy Mei

Guitar Shaped Cutting Board
This playful take on the cutting board features a shortened fret board that is actually mathematically correct in it's spacing.

End Grain Cutting Board
This cutting board is made of a mix of American hardwoods using methods developed for my MFA thesis over the past year. Although I have been making end grain cutting boards for years this design was completely different and I could have never predicted the pattern.

Belvedere Logo
Logo Designed for the Belvedere Restaurant and pub in Sonoma County. The logo is essentially a sketch of the main building, a 1906 Queen Anne style Victorian by famed bay area architect Brainerd Jones.
A theater set designed for a mock version of the Oprah Winfry show. The model was constructed as a light study and had interchangeable walls and ceilings to determine what combination would yield the perfect balance of natural and artificial light.
Giant Puppet Heads
The larger of these heads is five feet tall. Connected to harnesses and combined with mechanical arms they took three people to operate. They were made for a theatrical production called "Zona Rosa". Interestingly after hours of work the director decided not to use them at the last minute.

Conceptual Timepiece -
This interactive sculpture is made from various scraps or maple, purple heart, poplar, walnut, cherry and sapele. The rods have cut wooden threads and the pieces move and spin representing your stream of consciousness as you move through time. The piece is meant to illustrate that element of "Time Flying" when things go well and time seeming to move more slowly when things are not going to well.

Conceptual Timepiece: base
The base of the interactive sculpture reflects the present moment which for me is being in San Francisco

Ceramic Jar
I studied ceramics and wheel throwing for a few years to round out my industrial design education. I feel that exposure to a variety of disciplines and crafts makes us better designers.
